Clover Pattern Cutting Guide

Discovering this neat little gadget was one of those 'learning opportunities' ie. a mistake I made. I was making a blouse based on my bodice block, and was pleased with how I'd inserted the sleeves. Only the hem and buttons were left to do. I then realised my bodice block had side seams with a 2cm seam allowance, but I had sewn them at 1.5cm. My block was originally based on a pattern which had a 2cm seam allowance but everything else was 1.5cm and I had simply forgotten this fact.

After coming to terms with the fact that I didn't have the ability to turn back time, I decided to at least modify the seam allowance on my block for future projects, and make it 1.5cm all the way round to reduce confusion. This is where I stumbled upon the Clover pattern cutting guide.

You place a cutting blade through a slit in the plastic plate, and it's held in place with a spring.
Using the ruler guide indicating how much of a seam allowance you want, you place this on the seam line and pull the blade along, keeping the line on the ruler on the seam line.

I was impressed with how simple, quick and neat this was to use. It was easy to follow the seam line and made light work of this task, much quicker than marking it with a ruler and then cutting it. For even more accuracy, I helped guide it with a finger on the other end of the ruler. Definitely a keeper.
